RYA Yachtmaster Motor Practice

During this training, we will not only navigate a lot, but we will also practise some emergency scenarios. This way, the skipper will be prepared to deal with all possible situations.
The only internationally recognised navigation certificate.
Intended for:
Skippers wanting to navigate at the highest possible level and/or for professional purposes.
Condition(s) to participate:
The candidate must dispose of the certificate ‘RYA/MCA Yacht Master theory’ or of an equivalent certificate, as well as the certificate ‘RYA/MCA Day Skipper practice’ or of an equivalent certificate.
School boat:
A luxury 12,3 m-long yacht, annually inspected by the RYA and the Belgian shipping inspection. All safety equipment and comfort are available aboard of this 41-feet flybridge with 2 engines of 370 hp.
Programme:
During these 5-days training, we will teach you the following:
Planning and preparing trips by using sea maps, tide tables and an almanac. A crossing to England is not excluded.
- navigating independently under all circumstances
- manoeuvring with one motor (for a twin-screw ship)
- navigating by means of depth lines, without view
- navigating into ports falling dry at low tide
- man-over-board exercise
- deal with the crew
Certification:
The final practical exam is held by an external British RYA examiner, on board of a yacht, and takes between 8 and 12 hours.
Condition(s) to participate to the practical exam:
International RYA/MCA Yacht Master Coastal certificate:
To participate to the practical exam, the candidate should at least have navigated 30 days at sea, of which 2 days as a skipper. Moreover, he should at least have navigated 800 nautical miles. The candidate should also have navigated for 12 hours during the night, dispose of a first aid certificate and a VHF radio certificate.
International RYA/MCA Yacht Master Offshore certificate:
To participate to the practical exam, the candidate should at least have navigated 50 days at sea, of which 5 days as a skipper. Moreover, he should at least have navigated 2.500 nautical miles, including at least 5 longer trips of more than 60 nautical miles. For these longer trips, the candidate should also have navigated for 12 hours during the night, of which 2 hours as a skipper. The candidate should also dispose of a first aid certificate, a VHF radio certificate and/or a GMDSS certificate.
RemarkFor sailors, this practical experience should have been acquired on board of a yacht; for motor boat navigators,
on board of a motor yacht. The boat’s length should be 7 m at least and 24m at most.
The theoretical and practical trainings are not compulsory, but the chances to pass the exam are very small if you haven’t attendedthem.

- Newport on 20/4 - 23 and 24/4 - 27 and 28/4 - full
- practical exam on 11/5 - full
