For many skippers, boat handling is a true nightmare. The aim of this training is to keep the boat under control in all circumstances. We teach you to navigate entirely safely, without stress, so that your crew or your guests can enjoy the trip. The Helmsman course mainly consists of boat handling in the marina

Boat handling is one of NaviClass’ specialties.
Intended for:
Starting skippers really wanting to learn to navigate motor boats with a length between 7 m and 24 m. A ship of more than 25 feet easily weighs a few tons. Therefore, you should have the right skills to keep it under control, under all circumstances.
Unsafe manoeuvres such as using hands and feet to stop the boat, getting off to tie up the boat, are to avoid.
The crew as well as the skipper will only enjoy the boat trip if they master the right techniques.
Condition(s) to participate:
No preliminary knowledge is required.
School boat:
Our schoolboat is 41 foot and yearly inspected by the RYA and the Belgian authorities .All safety equipment and comfort are available aboard of this 41-feet flybridge with 2 engines of 370 hp.
Programme:
During this 2-day training, we teach you the following:
- boat handling and manoeuvring a motor yacht safely in the marina
- the different propulsion systems
- correctly mooring by wind and current
- laterally mooring on windward shore and lee shore
- backwards navigation
- mooring in a box
- manoeuvring in restricted areas
- deal with the crew
- safety in general
- to control the machine room
- man-over-board recovery
- course calculation and navigation
- an anchor manoeuvre
- rope management,
- fire safety
- correct use of a bow thruster
- etc.
The candidate has to perform all manoeuvres himself/herself.
Training scheme.
The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) has the best training scheme in the world. Therefore, we apply its methodology.
Certification:
After this training, you will dispose of a good basic knowledge of boat handling and basic navigation in order to navigate safely,
After an evaluation, you can also obtain the RYA Helmsman certificateI
The RYA certificates (UK) are the most accepted certificates worldwide.
Duration of the training:
Practical training: 16 hours (2 days of 8 hours each)
