Intended for:
Every skipper feeling responsible for the safety of his crew and his passengers, and wanting to survive at sea in a distress situation .
This training will teach you everything you should know about safety and how to survive at sea after an accident. This training can save your life!
Condition(s) to participate to the course 'Survival at sea':
No preliminary knowledge required.
Course material.
The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) has the best training system in the world. Therefore, we apply its methodology.
Theoretical training: The training ‘sea survival’ is provided by means of PowerPoint presentations, with lots of pictures and practical examples of how to survive at sea after an accident.
The participants will receive a syllabus of the training.
Practical training: In a heated swimming pool and the use of life rafts and different life jackets.
Contents of the course 'Survival at sea':
- How to navigate safely at sea?
- How to survive at sea in distress situaton
- Techniques to survive in cold water or in a life raft?
- Use of international emergency signals.
- How to prepare a rescue operation by boat or helicopter?
- Discussion of signs of hypothermia, cold shock, drowning, emergency rations.
- Practical training: Use of international distress signals (rockets among other things).
- Correct use of life jackets for survival at sea.
- Functioning and use of a life raft, survival techniques in cold water etc.
Certification:
The training for the official certificate ‘RYA Sea Survival - Survival at sea’ is given in English and has to take place in an closed swimming pool.
There is no exam; the certificate is granted
on the basis of a permanent evaluation.
Annually, we also do practice exercises at sea, with persons with persons having attended the training ‘Survival at sea’ in a swimming pool.
Duration of the training 'Survival at sea':
Theoretical training sea survival - survival at sea: 4 hours
Practical training sea survival - survival at sea: 3 hours
When:
- Harelbeke on 06/12/09, from 09:00 till 17:00 - full
- Harelbeke on 31/01/10, from 09:00 till 17:00 - 2 places available

Theoretical trainings: at least 6 participants - at most 12 participants
